Gilmore Girls

2×18 HOLLYWOOD BABYLON

The Winchesters are on a tour of Hollywood. The tour guide says that they are passing the place where Gilmore Girls (2000) is filmed, and if they’re lucky they might get to see one of the stars. Jared Padalecki, who plays Sam Winchester, had a starring role on Gilmore Girls (2000), playing a character named Dean Forester. At this point, Sam Winchester looks uncomfortable and quickly leaves the tour bus.

My time at a con on Sunday

So I went to my third con on Sunday and I went with my friend, it was her first ever con.

I cosplayed as Dean Winchester for the con and we had lots of fun. She didn’t feel well so she didn’t cosplay but she was going to go as Clara Oswald. At the con there were loads of other like minded people who also love their own fandoms. There were Harley Quinns, Deadpools, Jack Skellington, the 11th doctor, The Ghostbusters, characters from Star Wars, Characters from the Labyrinth, and so many other characters from many different Fandoms.

Everyone is accepting of each other and it’s such a great community. I’m so happy to be a part of it especially in our small town.

‘Geek’ Girls

Women have been into ‘geeky’ things and fandoms since they were created but why do we get challenged by men and other people to prove that we really are a ‘Geek’ or into a certain fandom.

I have been into Harry Potter since I could read the books and even before that my mum bought the first Harry Potter film on video. I love Harry Potter and everyone who knows me knows I love Harry Potter. That’s all that should matter that I like Harry Potter not whether I’m a girl or whether I know the colour of the carpet in the hallway of privet drive (it’s green by the way). Men aren’t questioned about the things they love like the marvel universe or DC universe, if they say they like those things then they’re asked what shows they watch and they talk about the shows. I’ve been told that I’m not a ‘real’ fan of Marvel because I don’t watch Agents of Shield. This is ridiculous!

Why is a woman who is a geek or a ‘fangirl’ depicted as someone who is crazy about one character and only because they’re hot and also attacking anyone who also liked that character. I’m not saying that no one is like that. But you cannot push all the fangirls or women into this one tiny category.

Why should gender affect the way people appreciate and enjoy various different fandoms?

Favourite female character

Jody Mills – Supernatural

Jody Mills loses a lot when we first meet her, her husband and her son are both dead at the end of the episode we first see her in and she is now exposed to the supernatural world. She learns a lot about the Supernatural goings on and she learns to defend herself. Even when she meets Donna she is a little skeptical about letting her guard down even for a second. She takes in both Alex and Claire and with them she takes both of their troubled pasts and tries to give them a normal life and make them go to school even though their lives have been interrupted by the supernatural. She parents both of the girls and sometimes even the Winchesters. She even managed to deal with Crowley and live. I also think that Kim Rhodes portrayed the character of Jody Mills beautifully and I am so thankful for this amazing, underrated, parent like character who isn’t perfect and that’s ok.

One of My Favourite Authors

One of my favourite authors is J.K. Rowling. I love Harry Potter. I remember one of the first books I ever became obsessed with was Harry Potter. It transformed my life and honestly I have learnt so much from it growing. Harry Potter was my escape from the real world and the bullying that was a constant in my life at that point.

The way she wrote transformed the little nook I was reading in into Hogwarts and instead of reading I was following the Trio in their adventures. I really loved that the books made me feel like I was included in something and that I was personally being taken on a journey with the trio on the Hogwarts Express.

I love J.K. Rowling’s writing style, you don’t feel like you’re reading, the words flow easily when you read them and there isn’t any stiffness when you are reading the books which I have found with other readers where it almost becomes a chore to finish the book but with J.K. Rowling this is not the case.

She also helped reading become a cool thing again for children to do and made children want to read books. I was avid reader of Roald Dahl when I was young regardless but then I read Harry Potter and I just remember wanting to reread it again and again. It was the first time I was excited for the next book to come out.

This is why J.K. Rowling is one of my favourite Authors.

Why I love Gilmore Girls

*spoilers for anyone that hasn’t watched Gilmore Girls or the Four part series on Netflix, you have been warned*

(When I started writing this it was only supposed to be about why I love Gilmore Girls but it turned into all the mothers in Gilmore Girls and my take on them and also their impact).

I started watching Gilmore Girls a month ago, my friends introduced it to me and I watched it on Netflix at home, at work, on holiday and whenever I could find time which I always made time.

This TV show is about a mother who had a daughter young and their relationship and it is just a beautiful and wonderful show. I love the way the show portrayed their relationship and how important it was. Especially as the mother Lorelai was a single parent and had looked after Rory (her daughter) by herself successfully all this time.
