Top Five Favourite Books

  1. Harry Potter – This is a series that is very close to my heart. I’ve been reading Harry Potter for as long as I can remember and it made me an avid reader at a young age. My love for Harry Potter no other book can match no matter how hard they try. It was the first book I got really excited about and became obsessed with and am still obsessed with. This is a book that I will always come back to and will always welcome me home.
  2. You’re Never Weird on the Internet – This is a book I bought because my favourite actress Felicia Day wrote it. I loved her on Supernatural and thought her character Charlie was amazing. I was obsessed by things she had created and had just finished watching The Guild. This book was everything I wanted it to be and more. I read it so quickly and before I knew I had also bought the audio book which is amazing and well worth it!
  3. Mrs Pepperpot stories – The Mrs Pepperpot stories were a collection of stories about an old woman who would shrink down to the size of a pepper pot, the trouble it got her into and her adventure to get home or sort it out. I used to read these all the time with my granny and these stories remind me of my childhood so much I always used to read them and they were my mums old books from when she was a child which brought us closer when I was young.
  4. The Famous Five Books – my granny lent me one of her famous five books and I loved them so much. This was a book that my granny loved to read and then my mum, auntie and uncle so it was book I could share with them. The adventures that the famous five went on always inspired me to go on adventures of my own even if it was just around the park with my packed lunch. These books are amazing and perfect for children, I definitely think that most children should read them if they are given the chance I am so glad I got to read them. Enid Blyton is an amazing author and also wrote Noddy,  The Secret six, The magic faraway tree, Malory Towers, and St Clare’s.
  5. The Fangirl Life – This is about a couple of different books but the Fangirl life is the first book that started off my fangirl self help books. Fangirl life is about understanding the fangirl but also using that to help yourself. For example; you favourite female actress or WCW and why she is your favourite, then what characteristics does she have, what do you have that is the same and what would you like to have etc. True face is another book which is amazing and is all about discovering your true face which you have hidden throughout your life due to wearing a mask of who you’re supposed to be and not who you are. The book is all about breaking down that mask, discovering your true face and then how to wear your true face. The fangirl’s guide to the galaxy is a great book for any fangirl or fan of any gender identification. This is a guide to the fandom life such as; definition of fangirl speak, different types of fangirl depending on fandom, and also where to find other fans in real life. These books make me feel proud to be who I am but also help me to improve and help myself where I need it and to be healthier mentally especially The fangirl life.

These are five (although the fifth one was three books) of my favourite books that I am sharing with you and why I love them so much that they are a part of my Top 5 favourite books. I hope this helps you find a new book to read and makes you want to share your favourite books with me below.

Top Five Favourite Female Actors

Emma Watson – I love the Harry Potter films and I absolutely adored Hermione. Emma Watson was my favourite actress before I even realised it. She is a great role model, she has done amazing work for heforshe etc. She is great at acting and she’s good at singing. She’s just amazing.

Felicia Day – I love The guild and also her character on supernatural. She is an amazing woman who proves that’s you can make it if you keep trying and to not let being a woman change any of that. She also a massive geek and she helped me to be proud of who I am.

Amy Poehler – I absolutely loved Parks and Recreation, Amy poehler was an amazing actress in this and I fell in love with her character Leslie Knope. She’s funny but also was a fantastic role model in the show.

Sarah Michelle Gellar – I loved Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Buffy was a strong independent woman who was so badass and I loved her growing up she was fierce and I wanted to be like her. I also loved her in Scooby-Doo she managed to make Daphne not a damsel in distress but a black belt and resourceful with her make up in that cage and getting them all out safely. She doesn’t get enough credit for the characters she played and she is a really nice genuine actress.

Reese Witherspoon – I loved Legally Blonde both the musical and the film. I thought that Reese brought Elle Woods to us in a perfect way. I just love that she was portrayed as a typical blonde hot girl at first and then we find out that she is smart and amazing and fantastic around the same time she does herself. I also love in the second film that she fights hard and finds away to fight animal rights for bruiser while staying true to herself. Her character was also a very strong and independent woman who wouldn’t back down from what she knew was right and also had good taste in fashion because why can’t you have both?

My Top 5 Fandoms

Harry Potter

Harry Potter is at the top of my favourite Fandoms. This is because I can’t remember a time when I wasn’t a fan of Harry Potter. Harry Potter has always been an escape for me from my complicated family life to being bullied. I’ve become the ‘Harry Potter’ friend and most days I’ll be wearing Harry Potter merchandise. I’ve been to the Harry Potter studio tour twice and both times were equally magical in their own ways. I’ve learnt so much from the books from friendship to how to cope with grief. I owe this fandom a lot it got me through being bullied in primary school and helped me find a love of reading at a young age.

This is one of the newer fandoms I’ve been in. I’ve never felt so much love and support from a fandom I’ve only been in for two years  (Three years in August!!). It has really helped me with my mental health especially Jared’s Always Keep Fighting Campaigns. I’ve never felt judged in this fandom, I started watching Supernatural just after I had my mental breakdown after I finish school. A friend kept recommending it to me and as I had shut a lot of people out of my life and I ended up spending a lot of my time alone I decided to give it a shot. I have to say it was the best thing I did, it helped me communicate more with friends who watched Supernatural, people online who were also fans of the show and later on down the line recommend it to new friends I made at college. This show got me out of a mental slump that I had created and caused for myself and really brought me back to myself and actually more so and has helped me understand so much more about myself.

Doctor Who

This fandom I got into in 2005 when the new version started. I got into Doctor Who because of my uncle. I really looked up to him and I used to stay at my granny’s all the time so on Saturdays we would go to his room and watch Doctor Who and eat a piece of cake before bed and I loved it. Although I am now more into Doctor Who than he is which makes me a little sad because it was something we used to enjoy together and now I enjoy it alone but for a brief time my cousins also watched it with me. This show really was all about family for me, I only started watching because my uncle had grown up watching it when he was younger and wanted to watch the new doctor who in 2005. I have to say that my knowledge of doctor who has barely scratched the surface as the fandom really is bigger on the inside, spinoffs, comics, books, the pre 2005 era doctor who, the magazines, podcasts, it really is hard to keep up with it all. I now watch doctor who on a Sunday with my mum as she works Saturday nights she we record it to watch together on a Sunday so even now it is still a family fandom for me but also loads of my friends watch it too which is nice to share thoughts etc.

This was another one of those shows I found on a Saturday while at my granny’s look for something interesting to watch on the only four channels that were available on the television upstairs. I remember just watching it because I couldn’t find anything else and falling in love with the fantasy and magic that is the show but not to mention the essence of the show. The bromance between Merlin and Arthur (but also with Colin and Bradley), The complexity of Morgana, Anthony Head (I don’t think it needs much explanation, he’s a brilliant actor and I loved him as Giles in Buffy), GWAINE, That hair, John Hurt as the dragon, Gaius I love this character so much. There are so many characters and actors that I instantly fell in love with or re fell in love with if I had seen them on other things before. One of my best friends and I absolutely loved the show and we still fangirl over silly things like Gwaine’s hair or Colin’s cheekbones!!

OUAT (Once Upon A Time)

I’m only just getting into this fandom, I think I’m mid way through season 2 so I can’t say I’m a major fan or a number 1 fan of everyone. However I do feel like I have formed a strong connection with this show. The characters mean something to me, I am always engaged in the story, and the props and sets always look amazing and what more could you want from a TV show really? I like that it teaches you something as well as you’re watching even if you don’t realise it yourself. I find myself amazed at how classic fairy tales are given twists and turned into everyday people, I never expected myself to be hanging at the end of my chair each episode, the characters aren’t as predictable as you may think they are which I love. There is also two sides to each character to and even though they may act evil that they aren’t always or they didn’t start out to be. I love this show and can’t wait to learn more about it and the characters.

Welcome to Nightvale

I’ve been listening to a podcast recently called Welcome to Nightvale. The narrator is a character called Cecil who works as a radio host at the Nightvale radio station. Nightvale is a fictional town that he lives in as well as many other residents. He tells the listens all about the events in Nightvale from the unveiling of the Dog Park to the whispering trees. There are occasionally guest speakers who will voice recurring characters or random characters like the old lady with no face who lives in your house. This podcast is sort of like a sci-fi, comedy, conspiracy sort of show.  The town is full of conspiracies and things aren’t always what they seem in Nightvale.

This podcast was recommended to me by a friend of mine who loves listening to while Welcome to Nightvale and has even seen one of the live shows. I am recommending this podcast to anyone who has to get the bus, walk anywhere, drive for a while on your own, or anyone who likes to listen to podcasts.
